Scott Kingery was one of the early injuries in what became a rash of injuries to hit the Phillies. He went on the IL on April 20th with a right hamstring strain after playing in 14 games with the Phils where he produced at a 2-6-.406/.457/.719 pace in 35 plate appearances.
Over the past couple weeks Kingery has started a running program and has slowly progressed in picking up the pace of the program. The plan is for Kingery to play short, second, third and possibly even in center field during the rehab assignment, which will likely continue at Reading later in the week. The Phillies are hopeful that they could return Kingery to the active roster as early as this weekend when they wrap up their current homestand.
Kingery, 25, seemed to be settling into his super-utility role with the club when the injury occurred. There had been speculation that with Cesar Hernandez slumping, he could see more time at second base, but the injury curtailed any thought of that happening.
