Howard named SAL Pitcher of the Week

BlueClaws starting pitcher Spencer Howard was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 28th.

Howard, the Phillies second round pick last year from Cal-Poly, threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a win over Hagerstown on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium. So far this year, Howard is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA over four starts. He has struck out 29 hitters and walked two over 29 innings. He has stuck out at least six hitters in all four starts and allowed no more than one earned run in three of his four starts.

He is the first BlueClaw to win SAL Pitcher of the Week this year. Nick Fanti, Ranger Suarez, Sixto Sanchez, and JoJo Romero all won SAL Pitcher of the Week awards last year.

Howard is next scheduled to start on Thursday morning (10:30 am) for the BlueClaws in the final game of their series at Rome.
