Minor league players become free agents after having played all or part of seven minor league seasons and are not on the team’s 40-man roster by October 15th or five days after the completion of the World Series, whichever is later. They also become free agents if they have been released during their career or have spent time in the majors and have been non-tendered at some point in their career and are not on the 40-man roster.
